Religious Freedom FACT

The Federal Government loves to attack your freedom. It acts like the minority’s best friend, but it is done at the expense of the majority. This leaves the majority in ruins. As a conservative/libertarian, I believe that government shouldn’t be involved anywhere in your life, except when tax day comes. I am a strict follower of the Constitution, and I believe it is a set of laws that govern what the government can do, not what the people can do. The First Amendment clearly states government cannot show support for or prevent a certain religion from being practiced by the people of the United States. This amendment was made to protect the people from what happened in England, where the government forced citizens to practice a certain religion.  This country was made because of people seeking religious freedom, so why is the Federal Government now attacking it?

A report from Fox News stated that in 2015, a couple that owned a bakery named “Sweet Cakes” in Oregon, were forced by the Federal Government to pay $135,000 in damages because they refused to sell a same-sex couple a wedding cake. In March 2015, Indiana passed a Religious Freedom Restoration Act that was signed into law by Governor Mike Pence. This law received extreme backlash from left wing media and even 2016 presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

In Oregon, this couple owned a business that they raised from the ground up. They owned it themselves and could do whatever they wanted with it. Obviously, the couple practiced Christianity and believed that gay marriage was wrong, so they did not want to serve these people. Frankly, it doesn’t matter what religion the couple practiced; they have the right to do what they want with their business. The Federal Government stepped out of line and violated free market principles, which is a key foundation of the country. The government made it their mission to protect “gay rights”, but they could not protect gay lives in Orlando. This was not about protecting their freedom, it was about violating the people’s rights and controlling small businesses.
